Customer: Trish Location: Coventry, Warwickshire

Property:  Semi-Detached House
Staircase: Straight staircase with a doorway close to the bottom

CUSTOMER BACKGROUND

Trish was finding the stairs increasingly difficult and wanted to explore the possibility of having a stairlift installed at her home in Coventry.

However, there was a potential problem at the bottom of the staircase.

A doorway was positioned close to the bottom of the stairs, meaning that the position of the rail needed to be carefully considered.

The customer was concerned that a conventional stairlift installation might interfere with access through the doorway.

THE CHALLENGE

The main challenge wasn’t the staircase itself, it was the limited space around the bottom of the stairs.

We needed to provide the customer with a safe and comfortable stairlift while maintaining convenient access through the nearby doorway.

PRODUCT INSTALLED: Stannah Siena 600 with powered hinge

The powered hinge provided an effective solution to the space issue.

When the stairlift was parked, the hinged section of rail could be moved out of the way, helping to maintain access around the bottom of the staircase.

Key benefits included:

  • Powered hinge operation
  • Comfortable seat
  • Easy controls
  • Folding components
  • Practical use in a restricted area
  • Improved access around the bottom of the stairs

INSTALLATION PROCESS

The installation took approximately 4 and a half hours.

Particular care was taken when positioning the rail and powered hinge to ensure the stairlift operated correctly while maintaining access to the nearby doorway.

The customer was shown how to operate the powered hinge and stairlift before the installation was completed.

THE OUTCOME

The customer now has the reassurance of being able to use the stairs safely without sacrificing access through the doorway.

The powered hinge has proved particularly useful because it allows the stairlift to be moved out of the way when necessary.

The installation has provided:

  • Safer access between floors
  • Greater independence
  • Reduced physical strain
  • Continued access through the doorway
  • Increased confidence for the customer and family

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL

We were initially advised elsewhere that it wouldn’t be possible to have a stairlift installed due to the door at the bottom. Chapter were clear and honest about all of our options and it soon became apparent that a hinged rail would solve our problems. It’s easy to maintain and keeps the doorway and hallway clear of obstruction – much appreciated.

CHAPTER STAIRLIFTS VIEW

Sometimes it’s the space around the staircase, rather than the staircase itself, that creates the challenge.

This installation shows why a detailed home assessment is so important. The right accessories and configuration can make all the difference.
