Customer: Shirley Location: Brockworth, Gloucestershire, GL3
Property: Detached family home
Staircase: Complex curved staircase with multiple turns and steep stairs
CUSTOMER BACKGROUND
Shirley from Brockworth in Gloucestershire had sadly become bedridden following illness and stuck upstairs due to the steepness of her staircase. It was frightening for her to navigate and the family were concerned about her living independently with no access to downstairs living facilities including the kitchen.
The staircase itself presented an additional challenge, with tight and steep turns.
The family contacted Chapter Stairlifts looking for a solution that would provide safe, comfortable access between floors without compromising the appearance or usable space of the staircase.
THE CHALLENGE
The multiple turns and changing direction meant that a standard straight stairlift wasn’t suitable. A bespoke curved solution was required, with the rail designed specifically around the staircase.
There were also considerations around ensuring the stairlift could negotiate the tighter sections of the staircase while providing a comfortable and secure ride.
PRODUCT INSTALLED: Access Flow X Curved Stairlift
The Flow X was selected because of its ability to provide a bespoke solution for complex staircases.
Key features included:
- Bespoke curved rail designed to follow the staircase
- Compact design to help maximise available staircase space
- Smooth movement around multiple turns
- Powered swivel seat for easier and safer access
- Comfortable seating position
- Rail manufactured to suit the individual staircase
The Flow X was chosen because its flexibility and bespoke rail design made it particularly well suited to this challenging staircase.
INSTALLATION PROCESS
The installation took approximately three hours.
Our engineer carefully positioned and fitted the bespoke rail to follow the contours of the staircase. Particular attention was given to the tighter turns and ensuring the lift could travel smoothly from the bottom to the top of the staircase.
The installation was completed with minimal disruption to the household, and the area was left clean and tidy once the work was finished.
THE OUTCOME
The biggest difference was the customer’s ability to use their whole home again with greater confidence.
The stairlift has:
- Restored safe access between floors
- Reduced the physical strain associated with climbing the stairs
- Increased confidence when moving around the home
- Provided reassurance to family members
- Helped the customer remain independent in their own home
For the family, knowing that the staircase was no longer such a significant daily obstacle provided considerable peace of mind.
CCUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL
Comments on site upon installation included expressed relief
at finally being able to get downstairs again and joy that the stairlift
enabled her to live independently without the need to move in the near future.
CHAPTER STAIRLIFTS VIEW
This installation is a great example of why no two staircases should be treated the same. A complex staircase doesn’t necessarily mean a complicated solution. With the right assessment and a bespoke rail, astairlift can be designed to work beautifully around the individual staircase.
